A North Carolina man has been arrested after allegedly killing his girlfriend during an armed robbery.
According to reports, 19-year-old Aaron Byers has been charged with murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and attempted armed robbery after the death of his 17-year-old girlfriend Hannah Bickley.
At 2 am on Saturday, police were responding to an armed robbery call when Byers flagged down to officers and told them Bickley had been shot. Officers found Bickley dead inside a car with a single gunshot wound.
Police say they think Byers shot the girl by accident while attempting to rob a store.
The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office say that Byers is part of a group that has committed more than 14 break-ins since October of 2012, mostly targeting electronics, jewelry, and gun stores.
In total, Byers has been charged with six counts of breaking and entering, seven counts of felony larceny, and seven counts of possession of stolen property along with the murder and gun charges.
Hannah was supposed to graduate from high school next month.
A neighbor said “they had each other’s name tattooed on them and they were always kissing and hugging each other every time I saw them.”
Hannah’s uncle said that “she was a good kid who got involved with the wrong person.” “We did everything we could to try to get some separation between those two,” he said.
He added “she had dreams of becoming a nurse. She loved helping people.”
“I know where she is at. She is with the Lord and I know I’ll get to see her again,” he says.
