A Florida man has been charged with enticement of a minor and faces life in prison after he allegedly had multiple cyber-sex sessions with a 15-year-old girl.
According to authorities, 28-year-old Marckenson Chery of Fort Lauderdale had numerous Skype sessions with the San Francisco girl in which he is accused of convincing the teen to get undressed, masturbate, and then watch while he masturbated.
Police say the girl reminded Chery that she was 15 numerous times.
Investigators say the teen and Chery began to talk in September after meeting on anonymous chat site Omegle (whose tagline is ‘Talk to Strangers!’) before moving their conversations to Skype. In November, her father reportedly became suspicious and took her phone where he found 143 pages of “sexually explicit chat between the two.”
He handed the documents over to San Francisco police who then handed it to Homeland Security since the man was well out of SFPD’s jurisdiction.
Homeland Security’s deputy special agent in charge of investigations in South Florida, Joe Trias, said “we are seeing an increase in these kinds of cases, though I’d be hesitant to call it a trend. There’s such a huge variety of apps… the criminal element is always going to find ways to use them for their own purpose.”
Trias warned parents, saying “the way one of our agents puts it is: ‘Do you want a 30-year-old man in your child’s bedroom at 1 a.m.?”
If convicted, Chery faces a minimum of 10 years behind bars but could be sentenced to life in prison.
