A Florida teacher has been arrested after having a four-month relationship with an underage student.
Police have charged 29-year-old Jennifer Christine Fichter after the English teacher confessed to having sex with the 17-year-old student as many as 30 times before getting pregnant and having an abortion.
The teacher, who worked at the Central Florida Aerospace Academy, is charged with six counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
Sgt. Gary Gross says “The mother thought there was some suspicious activity with her son disappearing at the early morning hours. She started looking at his text messages and noticed he was conversing with two different females.”
According to a statement released by police, “The victim’s mother discovered this relationship after reviewing text messages from her son and she asked that Fichter respond to her residence to talk. According to the victim’s mother, admitted to the sexual encounters and professed her love for him.”
Fichter was arrested 90 minutes after the phone call and is being held at Polk County Jail.
One of Fichter’s other students described her as “more flirty than you would think teachers would be.”
Debbi Carter, the mother of one of the students at the school, described Fichter as “Very professional. A good teacher. Very thorough.” Carter adds that “It’s scary, you know, when your children are in an institution like this. I know they can’t ever investigate a person 100 percent, but you think your children are safe in school.”
O.T. Holden, another parent, adds “It just breaks my heart. There’s something that’s not right here. They’re not mature enough to handle relationships like that especially with someone that’s an influence in their life like a teacher. I think it could be – it is detrimental.”
