The $500 million empire of the Duck Dynasty family is set to get even bigger as the Robertson family is gearing up to launch a line of guns! Duck Commander, the company owned by the Robertson family, is teaming with gunmaker Mossberg to release a series of 12 Duck Dynasty guns that include shotguns, a semiautomatic pistol and semiautomatic rifle. The product line comes on the heels of Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson having his suspension lifted after his comments about homosexuality in an interview with GQ magazine.
Phil and the rest of the Robertson boys are featured in new ads for the Duck Dynasty guns on Mossberg’s website, which include the family patriarch saying, “Do you know what makes me happy, ladies and gentlemen? To blow a mallard drake’s head smooth off.” The product deal proved to be so popular that Mossberg’s site crashed after the announcement was made. A spokesman for Mossberg said the firearms will come in a “waterfowl pattern” camouflage and bear the Duck Commander logo of a duck in flight. The guns will also come with an American flag bandana “like the one worn by Willie” on the show, although not all of the weapons are suitable for duck hunting.
However, some of the Duck Dynasty guns will be illegal in various states, including Connecticut. The pistol and one of the rifles have large capacity magazines that can hold at least 25 rounds; in the wake of the tragic school shooting at Sandy Hook in 2012. Connecticut made it illegal last year to purchase a weapon that can carry more than 10 rounds.
The Duck Dynasty gun line will give yet another increase to the Robertson family’s $500 million net worth. Approximately $400 million of that amount comes from selling their products that include action figures, books, wine, door mats and a Chia pet. Their products were briefly removed from Cracker Barrel in the wake of Robertson’s GQ interview, but the restaurant chain put the items back on the shelves and apologized just 24 hours later after numerous outraged consumers contacted the company.
