A doctor from Texas has a posted a letter explaining her refusal to comply with Obamacare, which has gone viral within a matter of days. Dr. Kristin Held, an ophthalmologist, tried to cancel her participation with Aetna’s insurance offerings, but the company told her she was contractually obligated to continuing caring for their patients for another year. She immediately took to Twitter and her letter to Aetna that slammed Obamacare.
Before posting the letter, Held tweeted: “Just sent this to Aetna. Never dreamed this would be a chapter in my life in medicine. Heart-aching.” The letter declared that Obamacare is made up of “politically-expedient mandates, rewards, penalties, rules and regulations with which I cannot rationally or morally treat my patients and run a practice, much less interpret, implement or comply.”
She also cited a shocking Obamacare fact that allows for a doctor’s services to be sold without their knowledge or consent. “You are getting new business offering health insurance plans featuring my services without my consent under terms which are unacceptable to me,” wrote Held. “It saddens me to think of the decreased access to care from actual physicians and the shockingly increased costs Aetna patients will now experience because of your choice to collude with big government rather than collaborate with patients and physicians.”
Other doctors and physicians have since tweeted their thanks to Held. “I don’t know what to say, this was magnificent,” wrote @FuriousNurse. “Know one nurse is behind the docs all the way. Thank you Ma’am.” Conservative commentators have also applauded Held’s letter to Aetna.
