A New Orleans man has been arrested after he was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl that was on his wife’s cheerleading squad.
According to authorities, 31-year-old Nathaniel Banks Jr. turned himself in to the police and has been charged with two counts of forcible rape.
He is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at his home, which he shares with his wife and high school cheerleading coach Laqunia Banks. Police were first tipped off to the crime after the victim’s mother contacted 911 to report that her daughter had sex with Banks.
According to court records, the mother discovered that her daughter was talking to Banks on the phone and, after being questioned, admitted to having sex with him while visiting the coach’s home. She also reportedly told her mom that Banks offered her money to stay quiet about the incident.
When interviewed by police, the girl says that Banks walked in on her while she was in the bathroom and complimented her looks. She asked Banks to leave but found him undressed on the bed as she exited the bathroom. According to her account, he shut the door and forced himself on her.
When questioned by authorities, Banks said he never raped the girl but did offer her money “to help the teen find a missing pet.”
He has been released from jail after posting $100,000 bail. His wife has not been charged with anything and appears to have been in the dark about the incident until the allegations came to light.
