A group of African-American pastors are calling for the impeachment of Attorney General Eric Holder due to his views on gay marriage. The Coalition of African American Pastors, who openly label themselves as conservative, have declared that Holder should be thrown out of office because the White House has “sold out” family values and American principles for their personal agenda. They also have argued the bold stance that Barack Obama would have been impeached long ago if he were a white man.
“He will go down in history as the worst attorney general,” said Rev. William Owens, the group’s founder and president. “[And] Obama has been given a free pass to do what he pleases, but I don’t give him a pass. I’m very black, been black all my life. He doesn’t get a pass. I don’t give him a pass.”
The group of preachers have circulated a petition to get Holder impeached over his stance on gay marriage laws, but fewer than 100 have signed on to the petition. The final straw for Owens was Holder recently announcing that individual state attorney generals didn’t need to defend laws banning same-sex marriage in their state if they found it unconstitutional.
“It’s a disgrace that [Obama] has stood on the shoulders of Rosa Parks and martin Luther King Jr.,” he said, The Hill reported. “I detest them calling this a civil rights movement. It’s not a civil rights movement. It’s a civil wrongs movement.”
However, their plans to impeach Holder might not be the best use of time; the attorney general declared that he will step down from his position at some point this year.
