Controversial conservative commentator Ann Coulter is waging a war in the Republican party with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. Earlier this week, she praised conservative icon Thomas Sowell for his recent article which slammed Cruz’s policies. She retweeted the link on her page and then talked about it further on Fox News, telling Sean Hannity that “I never push anyone else’s column but mine. Today everyone has got to read Thomas Sowell’s article.”
Although she has never bashed Cruz specifically, she named the Senate Conservatives Fund, which supported Cruz in his fight to “Defund Obamacare” last fall, as being full of “shysters” and “conmen.” She also went on the attack against certain Tea Party members who she felt were creating a divide in the Republican party.
“These people are just trying to get money off good Americans by saying we’re going after ‘establishment’ Republicans. How about going after Democrats?” said Coulter. “Do not trust anyone who says they are trying to defeat ‘establishment’ Republicans. The only way to repeal Obamacare is to elect Republicans. It is not to be fighting against Republicans.
Her turnaround on Cruz is particularly surprising because she has both praised and defended him in the past. Last September, she only criticized opponents on his “Defund Obamacare” strategy. But despite her belief that he is threatening primary Republicans, Coulter declared last fall that Cruz has been “magnificent in everything else.” She has continued to openly slam the president and Obamacare in recent weeks, though, even declaring that her friend’s sister died as a result of the health care plan when her insurance was canceled and she went into septic shock.
