An Indiana teen has pleaded guilty to raping a 93-year-old woman and now faces 50 years in prison.
Iquise Taylor, 17, has been charged and pleaded guilty to sexual assault, burglary, criminal confinement, strangulation, and criminal deviate conduct.
Taylor reportedly kicked down a locked door to 93-year-old Amelia Rudolf’s home and held her on the bed while sexually assaulting her.
It took police months to find the suspect but identified Taylor because his DNA was at the crime scene.
“If it wasn’t for the police department, I don’t know what I would’ve done,” Rudolf says. “I didn’t think I’d live long enough to see who did it. I was just wondering how he was brought up… if his parents had taught him to do right.”
Rudolf is glad to be able to safely return to her home, saying “I would like to go back because it is the house my husband built for me and my family. I have been happy all my life there until now.”
Police say that attacker lived about a block away from Rudolf.
The case has now dragged on for about nine months. In October, a judge ruled that Taylor was not mentally competent to stand trial. Two psychologists brought in to analyze the teen disagreed with the other’s conclusion, however. After spending three months at Logansport State Hospital, he was deemed competent and sent back to jail.
It was also revealed that Taylor had choked and raped a 10-year-old boy who was visiting his family’s home in 2007.
