A 16-year-old girl is charged with killing her best friend by stabbing her 65 times over a Facebook photo.
According to Mexican news website Notus, Anel Baez and Erandy Gutierrez were best friends who posed for many photos together. On Facebook, a photo of the two of them was captioned “I love you…you are my beloved sister…thanks for those moments of madness that provoke me and the laughter that you give me and also the desire to do crazy things with you.”
Earlier this year, however, Baez posted a photo of the two 16-year-old girls naked on Facebook which infuriated Gutierrez who threatened to kill Baez.
Gutierrez reportedly sent a Twitter message to Baez, saying “It may seem that I am very calm, but in my head I have killed you at least three times.”
Gutierrez added that “she would be lucky to survive until the end of the year.”
Baez didn’t take the girl seriously and invited her to her home in March to rekindle their friendship. While at the victim’s home, Gutierrez grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her former best friend 65 times in the back.
Gutierrez fled the scene and denied any involvement. The police arrested Gutierrez at Baez’ funeral.
Because she is still a minor, she only faces a maximum of seven years if convicted of murder.
The school is holding therapy sessions to help students deal with their grieving. “In this community I want to tell you are not alone, we share your pain and anger and can add efforts to overcome the bitter moment,” Juan Eulogio War Liera, the man holding the sessions, writes on his website. “Unity in the family is a way to preserve peace, values, tranquility and have a better world.”
