Fox News is continuing to dominate CNN and MSNBC in the ratings. The two liberal networks have lost nearly half their audience since election year viewing. CNN has seen its audience slashed by 48 percent, while MSNBC shed 45 percent of its viewers. Fox News also experience a slip of 18 percent since election year, but it pales in comparison to that of the other two networks.
All three networks also experiencing ratings blows in the prime-time slots, but the bleeding was far more severe for liberal media. Fox News dropped 21 percent and 41 percent in their key demographics during those hours, but MSNBC dropped 50 percent and 57 percent. CNN took the biggest hit with drops of 54 percent and 62 percent in the key demo.
Many of the changes that Fox News have been making to its roster have also helped in the ratings department. The addition of Elizabeth Hasselbeck to the Fox & Friends has been seen as a major coup for the network as she continues to generate headlines with her beliefs. The controversial conservative recently slammed Oprah Winfrey and accused her of undermining racism; the OWN Network maven said some of the criticism Obama has faced is due to him being black.
“Certainly throwing around racist accusations, calling someone a racist certainly for disagreeing when they are indeed not, would undermine racism when it does occur,” said Hasselbeck. “But this is someone as powerful as Oprah instilling fear in those that may come to critique policy under a cloak of racism when it may not be there.”
