Michelle Obama’s new campaign initiative: "Drink Up". Yes you heard that correctly. She’s advocating for everybody to drink more water. It feels insulting that such an obvious thing to do would be advocated by the First Lady. Has she run out of ideas?
What’s worse is that greenies are feeling worried about this suggestion. Imagine all the water bottle waste. Your tax dollars are already being spent to promote "water".
The health crusaders applauded, the late-night talk show circuit catered, and the media swooned. Even the carbonated beverage trade, which is getting its brains beaten out as Public Enemy No. 1 in the War on Obesity, got on board with the so-called Drink Up campaign.
But a dear, old friend of Michelle Obama’s husband, the environmental left, isn’t so pleased with the first lady’s latest health kick.
While greenie group Food and Water Watch may applaud the initiative to urge Americans to drink more water, they’re not thrilled with the plastic bottles the campaign may leave behind.
“We do have concerns that this partnership is working with the bottled water industry and we wish that instead (Michelle Obama) were encouraging people to choose the much more affordable, more regulated option of tap water,” Emily Wurth, water program director for Food and Water Watch told Wisconsin Reporter last week.
