The Miami Heat just won game 7 of the NBA championship and went to the bar to celebrate. They ran up a $100,000 bar tab that they didn’t have to pay for. At first, I thought it was because they stiffed out on the bill but it looks like the bar owner provided the alcohol on the house.
Why wouldn’t they? All the free press the bar is getting is worth far more than the $100,000 in comp’ed drinks.
But the Heat have to be careful. The big bad IRS could be able to come after them for taxable gifts.
James and the rest of the Miami Heat racked up a $100,000 bar tab on Thursday night, according to ESPN.com, after celebrating their repeat as NBA champions with a Game 7 win over the San Antonio Spurs. And in another reminder of the perks of winning a title at home, the club comped the Heat’s bill.
David Grutman, who owns Story Nightclub, where most of the players partied after the Game 7 win Thursday night, and LIV, where they celebrated last year, said the players ordered 100 bottles of Dom Perignon and three 3-liter bottles of champagne. Grutman said the club sells the standard 750-milliliter bottles of Dom Perignon for $850 each and the club sells 3-liter bottles, called Jeroboams, for $5,000.
