I thought California was bankrupt. What are they doing naming a $23M elementary school after Michelle Obama? Unless they call the school Moochelle Elementary, she is undeserving of such an honor.
The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) board voted unanimously to name an area elementary school in first lady Michelle Obama’s honor, Tuesday.
Jeff Crain, executive officer of the board of education, confirmed to The Daily Caller that representatives at the elementary school chose the name and that the board unanimously approved it.
“This name was selected by the school-site council because Michelle Obama supports active living and eating healthy, and the school models itself on that,” LAUSD board member Nury Martinez said, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.
Obama has been raising awareness and attempting to take on the nation’s obesity epidemic with her “Let’s Move” campaign.
The $23 million school to be named for the first lady, Valley Region Elementary School No. 13, was opened last August to help relieve overcrowding at nearby elementary schools, according to the Daily News.
