Only 54% of Americans are following the IRS scandal and 53% are following the Benghazi scandal. Worse when you break down by demographics. Only 40% and 45% of Democrats are following the IRS scandal and Benghazi scandal, respectively.
How does 54% stand historically? Frank Newport says this is below average.
Despite extensive news coverage of these stories in recent days, the level of attention being paid to each is below the average 60% of Americans who have closely followed more than 200 news stories Gallup has measured over the past several decades. Additionally, Americans appear to be paying almost exactly the same levels of attention to both stories, despite the relative newness of the IRS story during the time in which this survey was in the field.
How does this compare to the Trayvon Martin case?
80% of blacks said they were following it very or somewhat closely. Whites were at 59%. This bodes poorly for Republicans because I guess this means the media is going to go move away from bashing Obama.
