Those who’ve listened to C-SPAN’s live call-in shows with particular guests know that occasionally people call in with questions or comments that, from a certain perspective, might strain reasonability. Certainly that was the case this morning, when historian Brendan Doherty faced a strange question from a caller named Lawrence from the Bronx.
“My question is that um, Mr. Brendan, do you think they can amend the Constitution so that the President can run for three terms?” Lawrence asked. He also wondered if Democrats could plausibly take back the House of Representatives in 2014.
Before Republicans could reach for the smelling salts, however, Doherty gave a reassuring answer on both fronts.
Obama has never been one to let the Constitution get in the way of his ambition.
