Lolo Jones was the favorite to win the 100m hurdles in 2008 but she hit a hurdle and finished poorly. In 2012, she wasn’t even expected to represent the United States but she finished fourth behind two other Americans.
She represented America well despite not winning a medal. But the critics had to get on her case for not winning a medal, for being religious. They called her the Anna Kournikova of hurdles. She hardly deserves the comparison because she holds the US record.
NewsBusters reported on the NYTimes:
This year, she appeared on the cover of Outside magazine seeming to wear a bathing suit made of nothing but strategically placed ribbon. At the same time, she has proclaimed herself to be a 30-year-old virgin and a Christian. And oh, by the way, a big fan of Tim Tebow. If there is a box to check off, Jones has checked it. Except for the small part about actually achieving Olympic success as a hurdler.
