Meet Mia Love, the future first black GOP congresswoman! Or at least she will be if she beats Jim Matheson for Utah’s 4th Congressional District. But she does not want to be known as the first "anything". She would rather us get out of that frame of mind.
Some background information:
- current mayor of Saratoga Springs, UT
- daughter of Haitian immigrants
The latest poll by Mason Dixon conducted in early April has her losing to Matheson 45% to 42%. 45% for the leader is hardly anything to be excited about – meaning that this is a very winnable district for the Republicans.
FreedomWorks for America has endorsed Mia Love. Here is what they said about her:
Mia Love has a proven record of upholding fiscal conservative policy. As Saratoga Springs City Councilwoman and Mayor, she successfully protected small businesses from burdensome regulations resulting in a period of great economic growth for Saratoga Springs. The area saw 1700 percent population growth over ten years.
Mia played an important role in the Utah leg of the Tea Party Debt Commission, which coordinated with grassroots activists across the country to create the “Tea Party Budget,” a grassroots-generated economic recovery plan that successfully balances the budget in 10 years, achieves $9.7 trillion in ten-year savings, and shrinks the government down from 25 percent of the economy to 18 percent.
