There is a petition against HR998 and S555 circling around the net.
The organization that seems to be behind this bill is PublicAdvocateUSA.org. They suggest that these these bills HR998 and S555 may teach homosexual acts in school.
So I went to GovTrack.us to see what the bill was all about. HR998 is called the “Student Non Discrimination Act of 2011” and is sponsored by Colorado Representative Jared Polis and has 157 cosponsors.
It says the status is “referred to committe” and that was back in March 2011. I doubt a Republican House would pass this bill. And according to PopVox, 62% of users oppose this bill.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has endorsed this bill. Homosexuals do not feel welcome in this society, they are often scared of coming out of the closet, and often commit suicide. But I take the Libertarian approach and believe that rights come to us as individuals not as groups therefore these issues should be left out of the classroom.
