This took place in Stevensville, Michigan.
The racist word? Sordid. Meaning ‘dirty, filthy, or run-down’. This was all in a vocabulary test where Christine Schroeder had asked students to fill in the blank to describe Benton Harbor, MI.
I cannot imagine how THIS word is considered racist. I could only assume it is because the city of Benton Harbor is 86% African American according to City-Data. The administrators must be taking the leap to say that calling a predominantly black city ‘dirty’ is racist.
