Army Lt. Peter Burks was killed in Iraq back in 2007. He is an American hero.
Now his parents are suing True.com and PlentyofFish.com stating that they used his image in an advertisement.
The picture came from the family’s Unsung Hero Fund page “which is used to provide supplies to troops in warzones”.
Here are the text of the advertisements.
“Military man searching for love”
“Soldiers WANT YOU! Join here now”
The father, Alan Burks had this to say:
“I felt horrified, disgusted…To trade on the courage of young men and women that volunteer to serve our country and wear that uniform and for somebody to take advantage of that and use that for commercial gain – it doesn’t get any lower than that.”
“I just want these companies to admit what they did is wrong and to stop doing it,”
“If I receive any money as a result of this lawsuit, I’ll use it to support Peter’s comrades-in-arms who are still fighting and dying for their country.”
True.com said they did not knowingly use the picture and will look into this matter and take the appropriate action.
