Camp Pendleton Sergeant Gary Stein created a Facebook page that seeks to engage marines politically. And he has generated quite a stir for posting critical comments about Obama. He even has a banner that reads “Nobama” along the top of the page. The particular comment that may get him in trouble is his pledge to not obey unlawful orders from the President.
“There are certain orders by the President that I will not obey. Those are unlawful orders… Lawful orders I will. ”
Stein said his statement was part of an online debate about NATO allowing U.S. troops to be tried for the Quran burnings in Afghanistan.
In a recent KUSI interview:
“Marines want to be quiet… but me as a Conservative and as an American… my voice does count.”
“It is not so much him [Obama] as a personal problem, it is his policies… things he said while he is running … wanting to fundamentally to transform America… and fundamentally I think America is great, we succeeded this long so what do we need to fundamentally transform?”
“I am unhappy with Obamacare mandating that an American has to buy something… Unconstitutional.”
With regards to his stance on disobeying unlawful orders, he cites examples of times when a marine has obeyed orders but was convicted because the action was unlawful. If that is the precedent then it makes sense to expect a marine to disobey an unlawful order.
And think about it. The soldiers that burned the Qurans may have been given orders to do so. You do not see Obama coming to their defense, do you? Obama has demonstrated weak leadership by not stopping or speaking out against NATO and Afghanistan for having plans on trying the soldiers. Stein is passionate and does not want to become a fall guy so I understand where he is coming from but marines are not usually politically outspoken. And he could face ramifications for this.
