Ahmed Cathy Khaled of Alexandria, Louisiana has pleaded guilty to three counts of arson, according to a report in Fox News. These arson events are tied to flag burning.
Due to the First Amendment, it is legal to burn the flag… but not to commit arson. The particulars of this case merited charges. For example, he went to the home of a 79-year old man, climbed up his 14 foot pole and doused the flag in flames.
His sentence was conferred upon him by the District Judge Tom Yeager. Five years in prison for each crime.
His excuse for doing what he did was as follows:
“I was hearing voices, and I was having a crisis in my life, and I shouldn’t have listened to those voices”.
