Obama has increased foreign aid to Egypt, to $1.8 Billion, despite the fact that they have detained 19 US citizens as political prisoners.
Rand Paul wants to cut foreign aid to Egypt but Senator Barbara Boxer struck down his proposal last week. He says that no foreign aid should be given to Egypt for as long as 19 US citizens are detained.
Paul said President Obama should call in the Egyptian ambassador and send him home with “a message that America will not tolerate any country holding U.S. citizens as political prisoners.”
“Congress should act today to tell Egypt that we will no longer send our annual welfare check to them; that this year’s $1.8 billion is not on the way.”
Instead, he said, both the president and the Senate had sent “weak or counterproductive” signals.
Egypt has just elected the Muslim Brotherhood. And they have held 19 US citizens as political prisoners. Fair question: Why does Egypt get $1.8 Billion US Dollars?
