Herman Cain: "Newt Gingrich is not afraid of bold ideas."
Herman Cain follows Fred Thompson and Rick Perry’s footsteps by endorsing Newt Gingrich.
This was a shocker… at least to me. Though I support Gingrich for the GOP primary, I’d never have expected Herman Cain to endorse him.
On one hand, Cain and Gingrich attracted the same types of Tea Party supporters. To endorse Romney would be to alienate the Tea Party. Nikki Haley did that to her detriment. So I never expected him to endorse Romney.
But on the other hand, he spoke very highly of Mitt Romney’s background as a businessman. Not endorsing him would keep himself from getting any influential cabinet level position.
It was rumored shortly before Cain was dropping out of the race that he would endorse Gingrich but he never did. Perhaps this endorsement was being held back until it would be most beneficial. And I can think of no better time.
Gingrich did not need help to win South Carolina but he’s going to need a little extra nudge to win Florida.
