As reported in the Daily Caller, there is yet another attack on a quintessentially American cultural habit: the High Five. Long a hallmark of U.S friendliness that has been exported to the wider world, the classic high five is now being targeted by those who believe discrimination and micro aggressions live in every movement.
Police officers in a Massachusetts’ town are being told not to give high fives to kids as they enter schools because it may “make illegal immigrants uncomfortable”. In what was originally a program designed to make kids feel welcome, “High-Five Friday” was an inexpensive initiative to give kids a warm feeling and trust in the police as they would go to school. It was a popular program with parents, teachers and of course the Police Department.
Those promoting this virtue signaling policy surely have better things to worry about? Elected officials wasting their time (tax payer’s time) in enforcing ideas that only fit an ideological narrative.
It seems that very traditional aspect of American life is being subject to new legislation that has no popular mandate. These attacks will cut back on human contact and ultimately make the nation a sadder place to live.
