The Red Cross is apologizing after they promoted what some people consider to be a racist pool safety poster.
The poster was intended to show kids how to “be cool” at the pool. The poster shows a group of people and indicates who’s acting “cool” and those who are acting “uncool.” The “uncool” are seen pushing others into the pool, diving into the pool and walking too close to the edge.
Notice anything racist about the poster?
The majority of the misbehaving kids are black, which of course means it is racist.
After realizing this, the Red Cross quickly tried to take their signs down and apologize.
The Red Cross also assured everyone that it is “committed to diversity.”
“Going forward, we are developing more appropriate materials that are more representative of our workforce and the communities we serve,” the Red Cross said in a statement. “Our aquatic instructors have been notified of these concerns and we will advocate that our aquatic partner facilities remove the poster until revised materials are available.”
Do you think everyone is overreacting over this?
