Are cops in America racist? Many Americans along with groups like Black Lives Matter think that racial profiling is the rule, not the exception. Some Americans believe that systematic racism is responsible for crime. They claim that more blacks are in prison, and more blacks are shot by police than whites. If that is the case, then certainly there are statistics and facts to back those statements up, otherwise they are just words used to incite racist, anti-police sentiments.
A retired New York City Police detective, Harry Houck, appeared on CNN’s “New Day” armed with facts. He said that although blacks account for 23 percent of the population, they account for 75 percent of shootings, 70 percent of all robberies, and 60 percent of all violent crimes. Whites on the other hand account for only 3 percent of violent crimes. “That’s why there are more blacks in jail than whites.”
Houck said that it’s a two way street. Law enforcement has taken a look at what they have to do to affect change, now the African-American community needs to recognize that they have issues as well.

Conservative Tribune reports:
“Facts have gotta matter,” Houck said. “The police have already recognized the fact that we’ve got issues that we need to deal with. Now the black community has to also know that they have issues they need to deal with. This isn’t a one-way street here.
“In New York City alone, blacks are 23 percent (of the population); they make up 75 percent of all shootings, 70 percent of all robberies, 60 percent of all violent crimes. White only 3 percent (of violent crime). That is why there are more blacks in jail than there are whites,” he continued.
Hill said that those numbers were based on “a system that’s dysfunctional” and said that Houck’s argument was akin to saying “black people are prone to criminality.”
