Alton Sterling was shot by police officers in a Triple S parking lot while selling CDs in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, July 5, 2016. Eyewitnesses recorded part of the incident on video and the shooting was all over the news and the Internet. People across America were infuriated at what appeared to be another innocent African-American murdered by racist police.
The altercation that cost Sterling his life began with a call to police about a man, fitting Sterling’s description, threatening another man with a gun. When police arrived on the scene, they encountered Sterling who, it’s alleged, resisted arrest. In the video, Sterling can be seen wrestled to the ground and subdued. Suddenly one of the police officers cries, “Gun,” and police begin shooting.
This was not the first encounter Sterling had with police. Back in 2009, police responded to a call that a man was selling CDs on a street corner and pulled a gun on someone. Sterling, carrying a case of CDs, was approached by police. Sterling and the police officer got into a struggle, and a handgun fell from the waistband of Sterling’s pants. He was charged with possession of marijuana, sound reproduction prohibited (for the CDs), illegal possession of a firearm with drugs, resisting an officer and illegal possession of a stolen firearm, Sterling served two-and-a-half years of a five year sentence before being paroled.
The Political Insider reports:
The “Black Lives Matter” movement has exploded since the two recents cases of black men being shot by police, but one of those cases is now imploding after new information was discovered about the victim, Alton Sterling!! Black activists will not be happy about this!!
Alton Sterling was accused of waving a gun around, got the cops called on him, resisted arrest, and had to be subdued. That is almost exactly the same thing that cops say happened the second time, except police believe he was reaching for a gun and they shot him.
