The jury in the trial of 19-year-old Macyo Joelle January deliberated for only a few hours before returning a guilty verdict. January remained emotionless throughout his trial and the reading of the jury’s verdict. January was charged with the murder of David Dunlap and his pregnant wife, Whitney Butler as well as burglary, theft, and aggravated motor vehicle theft.
According to prosecutors, January shot Dunlap and his wife while he was in the process of burglarizing their home. Evidence showed that Butler was shot in the head while she knelt over the dead body of her husband. Since January was a minor when the crimes were committed, he could receive life in prison with a chance of parole after 40 years.
The media remains strangely silent about this tragedy. Imagine the uproar if it was a white youth who killed a black couple. Where is the outrage?
