House Oversight and Government Reform committee chairman Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) issued a subpoena in the middle of a congressional hearing Monday.
During a hearing about the classifications and redacted information in the FBI report on the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s email server released ahead of the Labor Day weekend, the FBI’s Acting Assistant Director for Congressional Affairs, Jason Herring, said he could not commit to turning over unredacted documents.
In response, Chaffetz said:
“Then I’m gonna issue a subpoena and I’m gonna do it right now.”
Chaffetz then gave the signed document to an aide who delivered it to Herring just a few feet away.
When Herring accepted the subpoena, Chaffetz delivered the formal line that usually comes with such a service.
“You are hereby served,” Chaffetz said.
