Presumed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump surprised the world on Monday when his campaign announced that Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s campaign manager, was being let go.
Trump’s daughter may have played a big role in the decision to fire Lewandowski. Ever since Lewandowski became caught up in a scandal involving Michelle Fields, a journalist who at the time worked for Breitbart News, Ivanka Trump reportedly has not been a fan of Lewandowski.
The straw that finally broke her back may have been the report that Lewandowski had attempted to plant negatives stories in the press about Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump’s husband, because Lewandowski and Kushner don’t get along, CNN reported.
Ivanka Trump reportedly sat down with her father on Monday morning and basically told him that either Lewandowski left or she did. Ultimately, The Donald decided to stick with his family.
Many have viewed this firing as a sign that the Trump campaign has finally start taking the general election seriously and trying to morph into what it needs to be to take on Clinton machine.
Trump has been in one controversy after the other in the past few weeks and polls have shown him still trailing behind presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. Trump may have realized that he needs a more experienced person to lead his campaign against the political veteran.
Despite being let go, Lewandowski stated he still supports Trump.
“I had a nice conversation with Mr. Trump and I said to him, ‘It’s been an honor and a privilege to be a part of this,’ and I mean that from the bottom of my heart,” Lewandowski told CNN after he was fired.
If Donald Trump is preparing to pivot his campaign to a general election mindset, this could be his first step to defeating Clinton. Trump can’t make mistakes against Clinton, especially when the future of the country is at stake.
