When a Phoenix, Arizona, cop responded to a call that a homeless man was annoying customers at a gas station, what he did about it was caught on camera when a bystander started taking video.
When Officer Mark Valenzuela saw that the homeless man had walked his feet raw, wearing no shoes, he took immediate action.
Valenzuela was pretty sure that the new shoe he just happened to have in his car would fit the man, and they did perfectly.
“He was just very thankful. I could see a little bit of money in his pocket, he had some dollar bills and some change. He wanted to pay me for the shoes and I just told him they were a gift from God,” said the police officer, after kneeling in front of the homeless man to fit him into the new shoes.
While the mainstream media continues focusing on promoting videos where police are seen responding to criminals, most often showing the officers in a once-in-a-lifetime situation of being forced to choose whether to shoot their weapons, missing from the national spotlight are videos such as these.
Most often, police take the role of public servants, confronting issues that society leaves to the wayside.
This video captures a moment that is far more familiar to the police than the scene of a shooting.
