On Veterans Day, one celebrity showed how much love he has by giving back to a wounded veteran who’s given so much to America.
On behalf of the Gary Sinise Foundation, actor Gary Sinise presented Captain Luis Avila and his family with a brand new “smart” home in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Luis Avila, a captain in the U.S. Army, was severely injured during a tour in Afghanistan after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near his team.
As the Sinise Foundation website adds:
Three of his fellow soldiers were killed by the blast and two others were severely wounded,” the website said.
Avila had his leg amputated and suffered two strokes, two heart attacks and anoxic brain damage due to lack of oxygen. he has been left almost completely paralyzed, making him dependent on his family for care.
Welcome home Avila family!
Sinise hopes that with the gift of this home, Captain Avila will not only regain freedom of movement, but his independence as well. While giving Avilas the ‘key’ to their new home, the actor said:
“It’s not a key, it’s an iPad, and it’s going to make this house work. Congratulations on your new home. Welcome home, my friend.”
The “smart” home works cohesively with an iPad that allows Avila to complete daily tasks independently. Tasks like opening doors, which he previously had to rely on his family to help him with.

The Avilas are the 15th family to receive a home this year thanks to the Gary Sinise Foundation.
