Unpatriotic Soldier Refuses To Salute Flag, Declares ‘I Don’t Give A F*ck’

An unpatriotic soldier recently took to Instagram to publicly raise her middle finger to the American flag. Tariqka Sheffey, who goes by in the Instagram name “sheffeynation”, hid in her car to avoid saluting the U.S. flag and then bragged about it on social media. She posted a selfie of herself hiding and then uploaded it to the site, which shockingly received hundreds of “likes.”

“This is me laying back in my car hiding so I don’t have to salute the 1700 flag,” she wrote. “KEEP ALL YOUR ‘THATS SO DISRESPECTFUL/HOWRUDE/ETC.’ COMMENTS TO YOURSELF cuz, right now, IDGAFFFF.” The last part of her comment was an acronym for “I Don’t Give A F*ck.”

The image ultimately went viral when it was distributed via Facebook. Service members, military families and other patriotic citizens are calling for Sheffey to be removed from service. Officials at the base in Fort Carson, CO, are now investigating the incident, but have not yet directly addressed the selfie. “Any soldier who refuses to salute the flag is in the military for the wrong reason, and should be removed by dishonorable discharge with loss of all benefits,” one Facebook commenter said. “If they won’t salute it, they damn sure won’t fight for it.”

After receiving a flood of abusive comments, racial slurs and threats on social media, Sheffey offered a half-hearted apology yesterday on a video posted to her Instagram page. “I seriously just want to say thank you to everybody who stood up to me today, like seriously,” she wrote. “That s*it to me was not serious. I am not a disrespectful soldier and I really appreciate you all.”
